A Return or a Rerun? Juracule Mihawk Ver.R New Shots
The Portrait of Pirates line has officially crossed five million figures shipped worldwide, and MegaHouse is kicking off its twenty-second anniversary in 2026. With the Warlord system gone and the Cross Guild making waves, you would think this is the perfect time for a brand-new mold or finally giving us the Buggy figure we are all waiting for. Instead, releasing this May 2026, we are getting the Juracule Mihawk Ver.R P.O.P SA-Limited—a direct repaint of the 2013 NEO-DX release. It is certainly a choice.
A Fresh Coat of Paint, But Not Much Else
Do not get it twisted, Ishiyama Yuuki's original 255mm sculpt is still great, but this feels like a lazy move from MegaHouse. Rather than a dynamic new pose, Mihawk is rocking his classic crossed-arms stance with an updated color palette. He trades the dark red floral shirt for a vibrant orange and gold pattern, and his flowing black cape now features a striking magenta inner lining. The shading on his light purple pants and dark boots is smooth, but it is hard to shake the feeling of a missed opportunity for a truly modern update.
Familiar Details and the Hawk-Eye Stare
Looking at the new shots, the portrait is exactly what you remember. His piercing yellow hawk-like eyes, facial hair, and textured white plume hat remain untouched. His massive black sword, Yoru, still sits securely on his back with its metallic blue and green gems. The paint application is undeniably crisp, but if you already own the original, these familiar details will not offer anything fresh.
An Upgraded Acrylic Base
The one genuinely new addition here is the display stand. MegaHouse ditched the old opaque black octagonal base for a sleek, translucent magenta hexagonal acrylic base. It drops the old Seven Warlords text in favor of an intricate Jolly Roger and crossed-swords motif that fits his current rogue status. It is a nice aesthetic upgrade that complements the new cape lining, but a new base alone is a tough sell for a full figure price.
The Verdict and Full Review Coming Soon
At 19800 Yen, it is hard to call this P.O.P SA-Limited release a must-have. Honestly, if you are looking to build out your display, tracking down the original Ver.2 to complete your classic Shichibukai lineup might be the better play. Let's just hope MegaHouse does not pull this same lazy repaint stunt with Crocodile to pad out the Cross Guild! We will still be doing a full review once we get our hands on him this month, so stick around to see if the final product can change our minds.
