Monkey D. Luffy Gear 2 Returns to P.O.P Neo DELUXE After a Decade
Megahouse is marking a major milestone—the Portrait of Pirates (P.O.P) series has shipped over five million units worldwide. To commemorate this, they have released a new figure of Monkey D. Luffy in his Gear 2 form. This is the first P.O.P Neo DELUXE figure since 2015, bringing back a beloved line with updated detail and craftsmanship, though some fans may feel the choice is a bit too familiar given the many Luffy figures already available.
First-Ever Gear 2 in P.O.P (Hopefully)
This release features the first-ever Gear 2 Luffy in the P.O.P series. The figure captures Luffy’s signature transformation with dynamic posing and detailed effects, making it a solid addition for collectors. It could work well as part of a diorama when paired with key characters from the Enies Lobby arc—Blueno, for example—adding context and depth to a display.
Announced at One Piece Day, Pre-Orders Starting Soon
Revealed during the One Piece Day event in August 2025, the figure will be available for pre-order starting early September. While fans appreciate the quality and attention to detail, there’s also a sense of disappointment among those hoping for figures reflecting the current anime hype, such as Kuma (a personal favorite) or any of the new characters from Egghead, who would bring fresh excitement and variety to the collection.
A Milestone Release with Room for Growth
This Gear 2 Luffy figure celebrates the success of the P.O.P series, but it also highlights a recurring issue: the overabundance of Luffy (and some other characters) figures in the line. While it remains a strong choice for many collectors, some are hoping Megahouse will expand the roster with more diverse and timely characters, better matching the evolving One Piece story and fan demand.
