Back to the Roots!
The Playback Memories line from Megahouse takes us on a nostalgic journey back to some of the most iconic moments in One Piece, and this time, they’ve chosen to bring back Nico Robin’s first appearance as Miss All Sunday from the Alabasta arc. A bold choice—one that comes with high expectations. So, does this figure live up to the legacy of the enigmatic vice-president of Baroque Works? Let’s take a closer look!
Design and Sculpt
The first thing that catches the eye is the stunning Western-inspired outfit. Robin’s long fur-lined coat, lace-up boots, and wide-brimmed hat instantly capture the mystique and authority she exuded when she first confronted the Straw Hat crew. The sculptors at Megahouse have done a fantastic job recreating the flowing motion of the coat, making it appear as if she is caught mid-stride, exuding effortless confidence.
The detailing is impressive, from the small golden studs on her vest to the intricate lacing on her boots. The dynamic hair sculpt further enhances the movement, giving the impression that Robin is caught in an action pose, rather than standing still.
Expression and Paint
Robin’s facial expression is spot-on—a mischievous smirk with just the right touch of mystery and playfulness. Unlike some past figures where expressions felt off, this one captures her cunning and composed personality perfectly. The sharp eyes and well-painted makeup further enhance her classic allure.
Megahouse opted for a rich, deep purple color scheme that complements Robin’s dark hair and overall aesthetic. The metallic finish on the belt and gold accents add a nice contrast, making the figure pop even more. The soft shading on her skin is also well done, avoiding the flat, plastic-like appearance that some older P.O.P figures suffered from.
Minor Complaints
However, the fur lining on the coat could have used a bit more texture, as it looks somewhat smooth compared to other elements. But this is a minor complaint in an otherwise beautifully painted figure.
Base Design
While the figure itself is exceptional, the base is rather plain. Given the importance of Alabasta in Robin’s story, it would have been great to see a sandstorm or Baroque Works insignia incorporated into the design. Instead, we get a standard base that doesn’t add much to the display.
Conclusion
Despite a few minor nitpicks, Nico Robin "Miss All Sunday" - P.O.P Playback Memories is a fantastic addition to the lineup. The sculpt, pose, and expression all bring back memories of Robin’s mysterious and commanding first appearance, making this a standout piece for collectors.
If you’re a Robin fan or love the Alabasta arc, this is a must-have figure that captures the true essence of the "Devil Child" when she was still a shadowy enigma in the world of One Piece.
