New Version, Same Names...
July brought us yet another Nami figure from Megahouse, and while it’s not another BB figure, it still leans heavily into the fanservice-driven aesthetic that the P.O.P line has become known for. Despite that, Nami Ver.New offers some undeniable appeal, and as a fan, I personally picked one up—without regret. So, let’s take a closer look at what makes this figure stand out and where it might fall short.
Sculpt and Design
At first glance, Nami’s sultry pose with her Sorcery Clima-Tact immediately catches the eye. The figure feels dynamic and playful, capturing her confident and flirty personality perfectly. Megahouse has definitely stepped up their game in terms of sculpting precision and detailing, and that’s evident in how smooth yet intricate every part of the figure is.
Attention to Detail
Her bikini top features a clean and well-textured design, giving it a sense of realism rather than just being a flat, glossy surface. The golden rings on her shorts are also beautifully done—shiny and reflective, adding a nice touch of elegance to her overall look.
Oddities and Proportions
However, there are two noticeable oddities:
- The ever-growing size of Nami’s bust—which seems to increase with each new figure release. It’s almost as if Megahouse is competing with itself to see how exaggerated they can make it, a trend that has even seeped into their other figure lines (Digimon fans know what I’m talking about).
- Her right leg—there’s something off about it. The way it bends and connects makes it look slightly unnatural, almost like it’s broken. It’s not a deal-breaker, but once you notice it, it’s hard to ignore.
Color and Paintwork
One of the figure’s strongest aspects is its color scheme and paint application, with Megahouse delivering smooth transitions, shading, and vibrant colors. Nami’s hair is rich and well-shaded, featuring a nice gradient effect that adds volume, while her skin has a soft shading effect that avoids the overly plastic look some figures suffer from. The metallic parts, such as the gold accents on her shorts and the Clima-Tact, have a perfect reflective shine, making them pop against the matte textures of her outfit. Overall, the paintwork is top-tier, elevating the figure’s quality and visual appeal.
Base Design
Unlike many P.O.P figures that come with generic or uninspired bases, this one features Nami's personal Jolly Roger, a nice nod to her character. While it doesn’t necessarily add anything groundbreaking to the display, it at least gives the figure a stronger connection to the One Piece universe, which is always appreciated.
Conclusion
At the end of the day, Nami Ver.New - P.O.P Limited Edition is a well-crafted, highly detailed, and eye-catching figure. The sculpt and paintwork are great, but the exaggerated proportions and awkward leg pose might be a turn-off for some collectors.
If you’re a Nami fan, this figure is definitely a fun piece to add to your collection. However, for general collectors, it’s not exactly a must-have—especially considering how frequently Megahouse releases new Nami figures. With exciting MAXIMUM releases coming up (Boa Hancock preorders soon!), it might be worth saving your budget for something a bit more unique.
